Brantford Welcome In Resource Centre is an independent, registered not-for-profit charity providing shelter and support to the homeless of Brantford and Brant County in a non-judgmental, supportive environment. From our facility at 305 West Street, Brantford we offer two programs, a 36 bed homeless shelter and a homelessness Resource Centre serving the homeless, the under-housed and those at risk of homelessness.
Since opening in 2004 under the name “Out of the Cold”, the 36 bed shelter has seen steady growth and now is home to over 350 guests per year, for 7500 bed nights. Originally operated by Yes church, in 2011 the shelter became an independent not for profit agency, CRA #84053-9100-RR0001 and began renting space at 305 West St. The shelter is open to both men and women 19 or older to stay one or several nights depending on the severity of their situation. Dedicated volunteers from across the community and a small staff ensure that the guests are safe and comfortable from 6 p.m. to 8:30 a.m. Although it began as a winter shelter only, in 2015 funding was acquired to make the shelter a 365 day per year service.
The Resource Centre
Seeing a need to offer more support for guests and the homeless living on the street, Brantford Welcome In opened the Resource Centre in April of 2015 with funding from the Homelessness Partnering Strategy. The Resource Centre provides one to one and group support to address the barriers people experience in finding housing. Issues including ID procurement, housing searches, legal support, medical concerns, academic upgrading, employment, addiction and mental health support and a variety of other barriers are addressed through support and referrals to community partners. A daytime drop in centre provides a safe, supportive environment to clients on Wednesdays and Fridays. View Calendar
